You may have heard about Operation Smile recently because of their campaign with Lay’s potato chips, but do you know what their company mission is all about? As Kathy Magee, Co-Founder and President says, it is to recognize that “every child that has a facial difference is our responsibility. If we don’t take care of that child, there’s no guarantee that anyone else will.” It is one of our greatest privileges and responsibilities as a company to assist Operation Smile in this noble and compassionate endeavor. By holding true to our own values and responsibilities as a company, we provide them with the sustainable and affordable material handling solutions needed to achieve this goal.

As their website states, “every 3 minutes, a child is born with a cleft lip or a cleft palate.” Although Operation Smile has worked aggressively to provide free surgeries for children since 1982 with the help of medical volunteers from around the world, it is a demanding task that deserves all our efforts collectively as a global community.

Getting involved with Operation Smile through fundraising, student programs, or becoming a medical volunteer are all wonderful options for creating smiles all over the world. With a vast network of programs and volunteers in over 60 countries, shipping and transporting medical supplies is a serious task. We are proud that our heavy duty recycled and environmentally-friendly plastic pallets are able to assist in this process.

Some children and parents involved in receiving treatment travel great distances, even by foot at times, in order to receive these surgeries. So, it is imperative that when they arrive, every item needed for the surgeries is present and accounted for, as well as stored properly. This will allow the amazing volunteers and staff to ensure as many surgeries as possible are completed as scheduled.Surgery to repair a child’s cleft condition takes as few as 45 minutes and costs as little as $240.
